Admissions and How to Apply

We would like your child’s transition to primary school to be a happy and smooth experience for your family. In order to do this we are continually trying to improve our links with home and playgroup, and many activities take place which are intended to aid transition. Visits, invitations to school functions, assemblies, and sessions in the infant classroom are encouraged between school and home/playgroup for both parent and child.

Children can start Nursery in September, January and Easter, depending on their age and spaces within the nursery class. They start in the term that begins after they are 3 years old.

Nursery admission forms can be collected from the office in the main school and returned to the school administrator. Lindal and Marton Primary School is responsible for allocating nursery places and decisions are made in accordance with the School’s Admissions Policy, a copy of which is available on our policies page. A place in Nursery does not guarantee a Reception Class place.

For Reception places you will receive a County Application Leaflet re: Starting School September Entry into the Reception Year Group. To apply for a school place you must complete the online application form or the paper equivalent (SA1 ‘Admission to Infant / Primary School’). This allows parents to state their preference of school for their child and should be completed by the deadline date (15th January). Parents will be informed of the outcome in April.

See the policies page for our schools admission policy.

The transition to our primary school starts in the summer term before your child registers at the school.  There will be an afternoon each week where your child can come to LAMPS and play alongside their new classmates.  This enables your child to get to know their new teacher and other staff in school and become comfortable and familiar in our environment. Home visits are carried out by the Reception teacher and a teaching assistant during the summer term at the request of parents and visits to the child’s current nursery setting may also be arranged. There is also an induction evening at the end of the summer term, when parents can find out more practical information about the school and meet all the staff; we strongly recommend that our new parents attend this presentation.

Junior Applications

Applications for any junior school  places are made through Westmorland and Furness Council.

For mid-year admissions, please contact school.

In Year Applications

In the first instance, we recommend parents contact our school by phone, to check for available spaces in the year group required.

In line with the Schools Admissions Code 2014, Lindal and Marton Primary School, on receipt of an in-year application, will notify the LA of both the application, and its outcome, to allow the LA to keep up to date figures on the availability of places in the area.  Lindal and Marton Primary School will also inform parents of their legal right to appeal against applications that have been unsuccessful.

Lindal and Marton Primary School will participate in Westmorland and Furness Council’s in-year Fair Access Protocol.
